This is a Palekh Russian lacquer box, dated for 1970 and signed by the artist (but I have a hard time reading what the artist’s name is). This is a hand painted item, signed with gold paint. This could be used as a trinket box, jewelry box, or just cool vintage decoration.
It is in nearly perfect condition.

Lacquer boxes are a tradition Russian folk art form. Generally, themes include characters and scenes from Russian fairy tales, literary works, and genre scenes depicting real life. I’m not certain what this one is supposed to depict, but I do know that it is entirely one-of-a-kind and authentic.
